I think OpenSRS has always been pretty clear that it is
your obligation to obtain payment BEFORE you register the
domain. The only scenario where you might obtain payment
but then lose it is with a credit card -- where the card
is supplied and charged for the domain, and the registration
is completed, but then the charge is reversed. In that
case, you *did* collect payment, but then it was taken
away from you. With any other payment method, once you've
collected the payment, it can't be taken away.

I'm pretty sure that OpenSRS doesn't refund your money even
in cases where there's a chargeback involved, but at least
they are able to place the domain on hold. I look at it
as a cost of doing business.

As for the expense of sending faxes from other countries,
there are plenty of services available that will send a fax
via email for not too much money. Check out www.efax.com
or www.j2.com as some examples. In both cases, the fax
would actually be sent from the US, so the long distance
fees would be minimized.

Subject: OpenSRS not deleting a domain name despite Non Payment

Hi

Recently one of my client requested me to register a domain name and later
did not pay up for it. When I requested the OpenSRS for deletion, it say,
(complete message after the email)

"Registrant reversed the charges on the domain
payment. Simply failing to secure payment from your customer after the
transaction is completed does not qualify for such action."

Why is the deletion of domain name credit card centric. There are many ways
in the world by which a person can make a payment, do we not know that or we
choose ignore them. In fact outside Europe and USA, credit card is as common
as a trip to moon.

Another point is faxing the request. Faxing the request from many countries,
including India is more costlier than the domain name itself.

I am sorry, but after paying the highest prices, we deserve better
treatment.

Ashish

"Hello
OpenSRS can only explicitly delete a domain at the RSP's requst within 48
hours
of the Registration. In order to "deactivate" (Reg-Hold) a domain, the RSP
must
provide faxed proof that the Registrant reversed the charges on the domain
payment. Simply failing to secure payment from your customer after the
transaction is completed does not qualify for such action.

Fax copies of credit card chargeback from your merchant bank to:

OSRS Comapliance"
