Actually the service the customer would have paid for was a renewal of
their registration term.  It is impossible for Verisign to successfully
argue that the customer received what they paid for if Verisign removes
the year in question from the registration term.  If the customer paid by
credit card, they can easily dispute the charge and get it reversed.
