You missed the point. OpenSRS client registrations don't go to tucows else
because tucows is shown as the registrar and when you check their web site
they are wholesale only. So the client must register at least 25 domains to
switch to them.

enon.com client registrations show enom who does offer retail registrations
but they charge $29.95 which is more than most resellers charge, so the
client has no incentive to leave the reseller for enom. To become a
reseller with enom requires at least a $300 deposit the last time I checked.

godaddy.com registrations show godaddy as the registrar and their site
offers domain registrations from $6.95-8.95 per year and hosting from $5.00.
per month. So if you charged more than $8.95 for domain registration or
$5.00 for hosting your client would leave you for them once you introduced
the client to godaddy by using them to register the domain. While some
clients will find godaddy on their own, why do the work for them?

And yes, we have lost clients to godaddy just to gain them back months or a
year later due to the poor service of godaddy but why lose the revenue
during that period? And unfortunately some don't care about service, just
price. So how good you are doesn't enter into the equation so again why
help them find a cheaper source than you?

In My Humble Opinion, any reseller or web host who uses godaddy is a fool,
as they are giving godaddy their client or they are working for pennies a
year. As I said, this is just my opinion. :)

I also quit referring coffecup software to my hosting clients when coffeecup
started offering hosting services. If all hosting companies would stop
using suppliers that offer hosting in competition this trend would probably
stop as I am sure that hosting companies indirectly control where a lot of
auxiliary business of their clients are placed. I know we handle the domain
registration and certs of 95% of our hosting clients. And most that need
merchant accounts follow a link from our site for a merchant account when
they sign up for hosting. We provide a trusted vendors link page on our web
site where we recommend products to clients as offering good trustworthy
products and you can bet that it does not include any company that offers a
competiting product to us.
