See, I disagree. Registrants are best served not by giving them what they WANT -- any old domain they choose -- but what they NEED -- domains under which they can be found.
I disagree totally with the registrant-centric view of the net.

My 85 year old grandmother who is a fantastic web user has no clue
regarding difference between TLD's...Heck she shouldn't...but she sure
does know how to google!! ;)

Then why don't we just change them all to .shmizzle, .dsfsdf, .54gfg, etc.? They are bounded with MEANING to make things easier to locate.
