Web surfers do not use domain names to "find" things. They use search

Very few people use people directories. Most people use search engines when they are looking for a type of content, but make a few hunts at the obvious places before resorting to search engines to find a specific organization.

If I were looking for Tucows, I would look at Tucows.COM before going to a search engine, and so do most people.

The DNS is not a search engine, nor should it be.
It always has been the lookup of first resort, *when* you know who or what company you're looking for.
