It's the client's fault for not renewing on time but they do not want to
hear that. Nor do they want to hear any explanation other than the return
of their domain at the normal renewal price.

We just had one who just noticed her domain was not working after six
months. She is now raising all kinds of hell because the domain was
registered by a company using it for advertising. emails, telephone calls,
etc. Even had her attorney call, who we referred to our attorney. Haven't
heard any more from him.

We explained everything to her, number of emails notices sent for renewal,
etc. She doesn't care.

I finally told her to file a dispute with ICANN,
http://www.icann.org/udrp/udrp-rules-24oct99.htm , as there is nothing we
can do to help her. ICANN will not help her but maybe she will get off our
back. Glad she did not use us for hosting.

Frankly we have about decided to quit registering or renewing domains for
anybody that does not host with us. We now offer new registrations for
under $8 and renewals/transfers for $10 to advertise our hosting service.
We have never considered domain registration to be a profit center but as a
advertising venue for our hosting services. We lower our prices from $14
after godaddy and some of the other low ball services appeared so we would
be in the same ball park for fees. Basically all we are trying to do is
cover our merchant account and registration costs from the service.

At this point we are not sure we receive enough new hosting business from
domain registrations to pay for the tech time it takes to service the
domains. Our auditor is doing a spread sheet over the last year to provide
us with an answer as to what percentage converts to hosting service after
registering or transferring a domain name through our service.

We may adopt the policy of free domains registration and renews for hosting
clients and require any client that leaves our hosting service to transfer
the domain registration away from our service when they leave to another res
eller. And pay a $15 transfer fee for the domain name to cover our cost if
they were with us for less than 6 months. And yes, it will be spelled out
in our registration agreement if we decide to go this route.
