Laura Lee Alben defined many of these core criteria back in May 1996. Search for her article "Quality of Experience" in the ACM Digital Library (it was published for Interactions magazine). Dan Boyarksi also wrote an article "What is Interactivity", Vol. 8, No. 3, Summer 1997 of DMI Journal, describing some elemental qualities.
