In my experience, employment is like real estate -- it is all about location,
location, location.

I'm a SAGE Level IV in the Austin, TX area, and I'm finding level-appropriate
jobs very thin on the ground here. I am on the sage-jobs list, but in all the
years I've been on that list, I think I've seen only one job that was ever
posted in the state of Texas, and that must have been for Dallas and not here.

The old rule was that 90% of all positions are typically filled through
personal contacts between the prospective employer and the candidate, and of
the remainder about 90% are filled by head hunters. That leaves a sum total of
only 1% to be filled through listings in public places, etc.... I don't know if
that rule is still valid, however.
