Ours most definitely has, though relatively few of our dev-staff have taken the offer. If my daily duties didn't involve significant at/near office obligations I'd be very tempted to take them up on it as well. The two hours a day my commute eats is a noticeable chunk of lost-time.

I'm not sure why it took so long, but an increasing number of companies are looking favorably (or even strongly encouraging) remote/telecommute work for their employees. Maybe it just took ubiquitous video chat and webex to make the management happy

Ubiquitous AV chat is what really did it for us. Skype, G-Chat, Join.me, G+ Hangout, all help. Since this allows us to be a 4 timezone company without the expense of an additional office on the opposite coast, it really helps.

It also means that the VPN is a @$&!#%@ critical line-of-business device. When that goes down for some reason, there is a world of pain.
