If you're a MD, people you know will ask you, to the extent they believe (and care) that that they're not being annoying, medical questions. Same here, with tech. It's all about the convenience factor, and just like every other profession. I do pro bono for friends and relatives and whoever happens to be within arms' length at any given moment. On rare occasions, I've offered volunteer services for various charitable causes.
