Thanks for your reply. My server is running on a pretty old computer,
but the hardware is surely good enough for SqueezeCenter. It is a 3.0
GHz Pentium 4 with 2 GB RAM and two quite new hard drives. I used to
suspect the server and I didn't do any research, but I've watched the
performance monitor now there doesn't seem to be any bottlenecks and
since the Boom is so fast I think the problem is elsewhere.

I did some more testing yesterday and I found an interesting thing. If
I for instance browse to Music Library -> Artists and then, just like
you say, scroll the entire list at once, my Boom will do it nice and
smooth and accelerating when it should, while my SqueezeBox3 always
halts twice. It sounds like a caching thing...

I don't think it's just the pauses that makes my SqueezeBox3 a little
bit more sluggish. I get the impression that every single scroll is
maybe a 100th of a second slower on it. Maybe that has something to do
with the larger display???

I want to clarify for all non-Squeezebox-owners that it is definitely
not slow. This is all about fine tuning, and I'm the type of guy that
removes most of the graphical effects from the Windows immediately
after every fresh install. Setting MenuShowDelay to 0
(http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=42225) is the first thing I
do, and no, I don't use Vista. :)
