Thanks for all your suggestions. Without too much trouble I could place them side by side and rule out any form of design differences while controlling both at the same time. It doesn't seem to make sense though since we know they share the same design, but it could be interesting anyway.
I use the remotes all the time. I believe it has something to do with the SB3 being in a "noiser" environment with lots electronic equipment in the same room, while Boom is the only electronic device in the bedroom except for the lights. My SB3 is also located on a shelf in the TV-bench while Boom is "out in the open".
