I agree with you Mark.  If I had to guess at what the difference could
be, I think it would be limited to:
1) Difference in wireless connectivity.  The percentages don't mean
much here so they can be mostly ignored.  The Boom may have a more
consistent wireless connection for whatever reason, even though it is
further away.
2) IR repeating may not seem as fast as the boom knob.  It's not clear
if the OP is using the boom knob or a remote control.  Try using the
same remote for both devices and see if the behavior is different.
3) The Boom display is smaller so it is theoretically possible that it
could be faster because less information is needed to update the
display.  I would be surprised if this were the issue.
