What location was the my.tt file in on your synology? I believe mysql maintains an active copy and a 'template' version. You must change the template versions otherwise the changes made get overwritten again. Can you verify that the file you modified still has a # sign before the bindaddress line? Besides firewalls I don't have a clue why a connection attempt does not work. You can download the mysql administration tools. Those are nice easy to use GUI tools, usefull for troubleshooting such things as these.
