The problem is that the SB system in its default way of functioning can't really work the same way as those plugins.
I would imagine that those plugins work in the same way as the auto volume adjust feature on the empeg in car mp3 player works. They have access to the decoded audio, in the buffer, ready to be sent to the sound card. That means that they can look ahead and turn the volume up and down to adjust for upcoming peaks and dips. The SB system works completely differently, in that the hardware player normally does the decoding from mp3/flac/etc. So by default there is no sensible way for a plugin on the server to look ahead and see how long the upcoming audio is. The system works very well for in car use in the empeg, but it does come across the odd problem track (Roxanne by the Police being the ultimate example, where it induces a very strange pumping effect as the auto volume cycles up and down repeatedly). To make this work in the SB world you'd have to do one of: - add the functionality to the hardware player's firmware - switch to transcoding everything on the server (and write a clever plugin to interact with the transcoding code, very hard to achieve given the way the transcoding happens) - write a plugin that decodes as it goes, looking ahead to tweak the volume None of this is really likely to happen. -- andynormancx Yes, it will. Yes, all of them. Yes, SoftSqueeze as well. What ?
