I an interested to see why RG and SG don't work for you with your Slimdevices when it works so perfectly for me. I am having trouble believing that your files have not already been messed around with, that your RG settings are incorrect or that there is not something else at play (iTunes volume levelling?).
I don't suppose it's of any help but I use Soundforge's normalisation setting on some amateur music, for levelling volume levels across a disc.
