Unusually for most "open" software, I think that end users of SBS would notice an immediate lack if Logitech stopped operating in that way - whilst I assume that the majority of users have not used a third party plug in in SBS, anyone controlling their SBs from a mobile phone would find that support lacking. Logitech have been very successful in creating a community of developers.
