Here's my take:

The Boom and Receiver are based on the same platform as the
SB3/Classic/SB2 so as long as those are available, the other IP3K
players will also be supported. Then you have the two year warranties
on the Boom and Radio, I can't see them honouring the warranties and
dropping the support in the newest server released. There may not ever
be more firmware updates (they are now in bug fix only status as there
isn't any room left to add features), but that doesn't mean they won't
work. Even the SliMP3 and the original SB are still completely
functional when using the full server. They don't work with a Touch as
a server because they need much more processing power to run their
displays and communication protocols. 

I personally wouldn't worry about they being completely obsolete any
time soon.
