I hadn't realised that Android was (potentially) this limited (I knew nothing about it, really, so thanks for the info). The netbook I used - and I was pretty impressed, actually - was running Linux (Fedora); I think until tablets can run a stock linux - albeit with extra drivers/apps added from repositories - it's perhaps better to wait. But the idea, of using a 7" tablet with those capabilities as the media delivery system to a HiFi, is compelling. Thanks, both, for the input.
