Think about it this way: those NAS boxes have 200-400 MHz processors but they're often not x86 processors so they perform a little lower than the speed rating would suggest. As an off-the-cuff suggestion, I'd say go for a 500 MHz processor. 750 MHz would be ideal. 256 MB of RAM is fine, even for Windows - provided you don't go overboard with other applications. > however i am wandering what OS to install (i have windows xp tweaked > edition with minimal driver installed (only 64RAM require) i also have > no exp of LINUX although it seems interesting to play with. Check out 'ClarkConnect' (http://www.clarkconnect.com/community/). Doesn't require much Linux knowledge, and best of all, comes with SlimServer already installed. > also how about monitor and keyboard? i hate to place and old looking box > with monitor in my bedroom. i was planning to hide the box (forgetting > the keyboard, monitor and mouse of course) somewhere in my bedroom ClarkConnect has a web interface much like a NAS or a router. If you're using Windows or Linux on your server, check out 'TightVNC' (http://www.tightvnc.com/). According to a recent forum post, 'NoMachine' (http://www.nomachine.com/) is even better, but it works only for a Linux server (although the client can run on anything). -- Mark Lanctot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mark Lanctot's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2071 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25892 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
