What else? Cast the whole thing out of metal alloy. Bi-amp the speakers, and use high-quality, bullet-proof drivers. Don't ruin it by trying to get deep bass out of the thing. Pick a reasonable low limit for the cabinet size and design to that. If you can get down to 60 or 65 Hz and it's clean, great. Then include a subwoofer-out, so it can be made into a full-range home system by adding a powered sub. Make it stylish, but allow form to follow function. It might make sense to have one speaker detachable for better separation. Also, if it's going to be a true portable system, you have to have local playback when out of wireless range. There should be a built-in slimserver and maybe 4 GB of internal memory, plus a memory card reader. When a memory card is inserted, it gets indexed in the background, while the internal memory (or wi-fi connected slimserver library) plays. Switching over should be nearly seamless. 5 seconds out of wi-fi range and you should be listening to local playback. We'll call it...the MainSqueeze! HA HA HA! Oh, sorry.... It would sound good enough to build a home system around, just by adding a subwoofer. But you can take it outside and have a rockin' back yard system, or take it to the beach or the wilderness and have many hours of local playback. Heh - even have a hidden hand crank in the bottom, to recharge the battery pack hamster-style. Never run out of tunes. You might be freezing in a crevasse on Mt. Hood, with a broken leg and 3 smashed ribs....BUT YOU'VE GOT TUNES!!!!!!!!!!!! -- Pale Blue Ego ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Pale Blue Ego's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=110 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42805 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
