just playing devils advocate, (which obviously is not necessary but i
can't resist); but just what exactly was his fault?

seems to me he had a problem, through no fault of his own, that he
needed rectified.  seems to me this was compounded by a slim email
problem they should be thankful for him making obvious.  seems to me
that the forum, just like email, is just as logical and decent a place
to seek that resolution as a phone would be.

just b/c everyone doesn't go about things how you, [plural], might,
doesn't mean they went about it the wrong way.  the fact of the matter
is logitech is a business, and they operate this site, and therefore
they can and should expect to see criticism and complaints from time to
time.  in fact, i rarely ever see logitech (aka slim) people complain
about that.  its always the fans of the product who get up in arms
about it, and i have no idea why.  complaints and criticisms should be
expected, and they will often sound like, well, complaints!  they are
necessarily going to come gift wrapped in bows, and it shouldn't bother
anyone they don't.

its like a crab being shocked at the audacity of the ocean for the tide
to come in.  well, what did he expect?  from time to time, it happens. 
its not rude, its natural, and logical.
