And what an effort <smile>

Well I guess (and this is only going on my experiences with Apple products over 20 years), that building a Mac is a foreign idea to allot of people as they've always come in a box, off a shelf in a department store, of course (and this I think is still the case today in many places), whe nI first remember buying an Apple 2/E 20 years ago you went to a specific specialest computer store, saw the Apple demonstrated, you purchased the machine as is in a box and then purchased the appropriate accessories or cards to put into the system.

Now I'm wondering whether Apple have such a tight control over all this brings us some very good advantages? I mean you often hear of bad people who say they know what they're doing when it comes to building computers and all they do is turn out lemons, etc but you don't hear that sort of thing when it comes to buying a Mac, ok you get crook machines of course but in general, the Mac is ready to go the moment its taken out of the box, plugged in and switched on, can you say the same thing for many people who build P
C'S?

In an effort to add something educational here, what is the difference between what he is suggesting, and say upgrading an older mac to a newer one? Others have done this on this list or have referenced as much. building a pc from parts is not uncommon, so I can understand the spirit of the goal, but not why the idea is such an odd one where macs are concerned?
Just wondering,

You might save 200 dollars or so, but what about that warranty? What about all the time and effort? Sheesh, oh, and you have to buy the us.

1. there any one doing this currently?
2. if this is possible, would it run tiger, or would I have to result to using hacked version of osx?
