Congratulations to Dane for picking up a G3 iMac for $100.  That is a
good deal.  I periodically check eBay for late model G3 iMacs and am
stunned by what they go for.  I think $200 would be fair, but they go
for twice that.  One nice thing about machines that are good enough is
that you can break the upgrade cycle.  I have an G3 iMac that runs OS
9 and the kids games great and is meets the minimum published
requirements for Tiger despite being manufactured in 2000.  My
expectation is that Leopard will not support G3.

The OS X on generic 86 is interesting but not really practical for a
production machine.  If you save $50 a month for a year that covers a
brand new Mini that you can reasonably expect to be compatible with
the latest software offering five years after purchase.  It will be
far longer than a year before OSx86 is anything more than an
interesting hack.
