As I recall, iPhone is considered a sort of a "smart phone," in the
sense that, if you swipe your finger across something you didn't want,
just simply clear it with one or several swipes, and start again. At
least, with speech, you can halfways navigate the touch screen. My
niece has an iPhone and she was explaining to me how she gets to the
screen. She has rather large hands, but she says she has to swipe
more than once to clear the screen of unwanted items, but she says
it's no big deal with her. By the way, Aliza is sighted, but she has
a hard time seeing the screen close up, so she has to hold it quite a
ways away from her eyes. Richie Gardenhire, Anchorage, Alaska.

The trouble is that even if VoiceOver is implemented, how do we
navigate the screen? I mean, do we run our fingertips across
andhope we hear what we're looking for? I've seen an iPhone--totally
smooth, no keyboard. You have to type like you're usinga keyboard
for emails and things, but still, yo gotta know where the keyboard
*is*.

Unfortunately from the preliminary readings I've done, the new
iPhone 3G edition, will not be VoiceOver friendly. We will
probably have to wait a while longer for that to happen. But as
they say, "All good things come to those of us who wait
patiently." So I'm going to keep reading and checking to see what
comes down the pipe in the next generation of iPhones after this
one. Richie Gardenhire, Anchorage, Alaska.
