The site shows a whole host of options that the remote works with, and
yes, choosing an OS at startup is one of them. The menu key on the
remote would act like the option key press. So holding that would
bring up the appropriate selection area and then using the right /
left directional ring, followed by a short press of select, would
choose the OS.

From Safari you can use Control-N to step through to the next post in
the thread (and Control-P will step back to the previous post in the
thread), so you can read through the subsequent messages. If you
use Control-P twice, you'll see my speculated answer to David's
question about whether you can also choose a boot volume with the
Apple Remote. Other browsers that support shortcut keys to navigate
the Mail archive posts may use the Alt key in place of the Control key
(Alt-N to go to the next post in a thread and Alt-P to go to a
previous
post).
