That method is the problem, not the solution, I wouldn't do it if you
paid me. Again, nothing personal, of course, but it's the very process
I'd like to stop, also because, as Nicholas noted, only OO.o lists
have this broken attitude.
I think this is my last post because we are going in circles. I am going
to make the following conclusions. If am wrong please let me know.
1) The overall issue seems to lie in the collabnet software that OOo
uses for its mailing list.
2) Everyone (save maybe Nicolas) agrees that unsubscribed posters should
get a copy of the message.
3) No one likes seeing the same message posted twice on the list because
it is annoying.
4) Marco's solution (which if it works would be optimal) requires a
someone to run a Linux machine with procmail on it.
5) No one thus far has stepped up to do that, so until a time when that
is accomplished, the status quo will have to remain because it is the
only method that achieves the goal of sending only one copy of an
unsubscribed user.
(The last point may be contentious, but I believe, as do others, that it
is the best practice given our infrastructure.)
Other solutions:
1) Make discuss subscriber only. I think Marco suggested this (although
not explicitly) in his first post. If the discuss list is for
"discussions on OpenOffice.org and Open Source," then people should
subscribe to participate. I have become increasingly annoyed with the #
of bug and help requests that have shown up on the discuss list that
should be on the users list. This would at least limit the problem to
the users list.
2) If you want to decrease the # of second posts to the list, cc the OP
yourself if you respond. You can very easily identify unsubscribed users
by following there instructions:
