So, as someone wanting to get a membership, and wanting to get a key:

I certainly wasn't expecting to show up at the open house and walk out with a membership and a key; the current website is pretty clear that the key is an "extra" and pending approval from existing members. This seems like a pretty good rule.

I'm unclear (and apologies if this has been covered in one of the other threads, I lost track a bit) on how the key being attached to the new level would affect that process; is the key automatic at the higher level? Does that mean that someone brand new can walk in and actually walk out with a key? I'm not sure if allowing someone access to a shared space with communal tools and personal storage without even a basic waiting period is a good idea. Of course, it's not like you're running comprehensive background checks on every applicant, so it's a question of where the line should (and objectively can) be drawn; but I think it should be a bit more conservative than that.

I'm not sure how much I'll be able to get to the space and when, so obviously having a key is a plus for me; I might be there late nights, weekends, or randomly during working days depending on my schedule, and my plans could change with very little notice, so I don't feel good pulling other people down to the space at random (and I know several of you have said it's not a problem, I still don't feel good about it, based on how my plans can change without warning.)

That said, needing to sign up for the higher level when I'm not sure how much time I'd be able to spend there in any given month isn't exactly giving me a warm and fuzzy feeling either.

Is there a middle ground where having 24-7 access is a "add-on" of $5 or $10/month on top of a basic membership, with the usual review?

Howdy, all.

At today's meeting we were discussing possibly restructuring the
membership perks again.

First: Creating another higher level called Sponsor, with monthly dues
of $250/mo. Nothing exciting there; It can be used as a way to entice
corporate sponsors.

Second: Bumping the requirement for a key from any member rank up to
serious geek ($55/mo).

I'll be adding my own contribution to discussion in a second mail once
I've thought about it more.
