Deleting everything to do with the failed board and related documents would
be a good start (or, better, move them to a "do not repeat" area).

No! People should volunteer and they should do things. But don't volunteer
others to do things.

A roadmap is good but timelines are meaningless without people doing the
work. This is where Hsing-Foo was quite wrong. You can't put out a release
timetable without any concept of effort or available people hours.

And this is likely a major issue. As far as I can tell, all of the people
who put the major development work into SME7/SME8 are unable to commit
significant time. I am one of those.

Perhaps the first thing to do is assess how many hours people can offer. Of
course that can't be guaranteed, but much of this does scale by the number
of people doing things.
