my athlon packs up at 60 degrees C !!! but then maybe i have a dodgy thermal sensor...
i've had no end of problems with the bugger overheating. i now have, in addition to the heatsink fan, two desk fans pointing into the pc case! it's a shit temporary solution that i've never got round to sorting properly. must be blowing all kinds of dust and shit into the case, not good at all... and it's damn noisy! i've had to change my heatsink cos the fan didn't work on the first one. but you'd know about it if the fan went. it could be that the thermal strip between the cpu and heatsink is shagged, so they're not making good thermal contact. i think that's the problem with mine. do you have any usb peripherals that might be taking a lot of power? usb modems are notorious for that apparently. if the psu is working extra hard, the case will heat up more, ergo so will the cpu... the answer is to get an external usb hub. you can get case fans that slot into an empty port at the back... i think janne has been having athlon overheating problems too, maybe he got some ideas... keep it frosty, mattrick www.sequential-recordings.co.uk * ----- Original Message ----- From: "dj daze" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Drum & Bass Arena Discussion List" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Sunday, February 03, 2002 5:37 PM Subject: [dnb-prod] cpu probs > > i recently upgraded to a 1GHZ athlon chip but i'm having > serious overheating problems!! > > i set the pc to shut down if the cpu reached 90C [amd's max temp] > and it is reaching that - and shutting down!!!!! > > i've read though that at these temps the pc should be very unstable > but mine isnt - it works fine up to that point. > > could it just be a dodgy cpu thermometer? i've read that they arent > very accurate. > > btw, the heatsink and fan are supposed to be fine for the cpu. > > > > daze > > advisory / armageddon recordings > http://stage.vitaminic.co.uk/dj_daze > > > > > > > --- > Drum&Bass Arena Producers Discussion List http://www.breakbeat.co.uk > You are currently subscribed to dnb-prod as: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] > --- Drum&Bass Arena Producers Discussion List http://www.breakbeat.co.uk You are currently subscribed to dnb-prod as: [email protected] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
