It's quite likely that this whole AMD heat thing has been resolved already,
I haven't read my email for a while but anyway:

Not really. You think AMD sells heat sinks that won't allow their cpus to
run properly?

The problem is that AMD/dealers/whoever don't make a few things clear.
Firstly you need decent case cooling. A fan sucking air in at the
bottom-front of the case and a similar fan sucking air out near the cpu
should do the trick - most cases will have somewhere to fit these fans.

Also - if you have a mish-mash of cables inside your case, tidy it up! The
air needs to be able to flow through the case.

Putting Arctic silver 2/3 on the cpu will lower temperatures but not a whole
lot, in this situation it is not "required" but I guess it couldn't do any
harm.

Are you crazy? You only need one of these if you are doing some quite
serious overclocking..

Like I did when I first got my 1.4ghz Athlon..

90C is NOT the max temp of your CPU. It would be toast quite a bit before
that! I don't know *why* AMD puts that figure in their documentation but its
not sensible anyway. AMD support personnel have unofficially said that 65C
is the max temperature you should be aiming for.. but this varies between
particular cpu's of course.

It could be, but it's unlikely.

If you're still having problems with this CPU (if it isn't toast yet!) then
I might be able to help solve your problems... I've been through this same
problem myself.
