Both !!! Individual drum hits get processed in Sound Forge, sent to the sampler (hardware in my case), EQ'd on different channels in the desk. Recorded to Logic through a compressor. As seperate channels. e.g. Kick on one channel, snare on another. They get EQ'd and effected again if needed and then piped into a sub group and effected and compressed as a whole. This can happen with any sound.
