The term "domain name" is already defined in RFC 8499. If you don't like that
definition, please suggest changes that will find consensus in the WG.
i'm not going to lawyer this. if you prefer that we use the term
"domain-style" (RFC 952) or "hierarchical names" (RFC 921) or
"structured names" (RFC 921 again), i'll do it, but others might not. to
communicate effectively requires not only a dictionary but the knowledge
that one's listener may have a different one. in any case the confusion
will remain no matter what term is used unless the additional text
("which precedes the domain name system itself") is added to every such
reference.
