Three things:

- .alt is explicitly not for people who want to use the DNS. It is explicitly 
for protocols that do not want to use the DNS.

- The GNS proposal says it is mostly about not using the DNS, although it has 
some parts that work with the DNS.

- THe SAC113 proposal is for people who want to use the DNS.

I agree with those who have said "almost no one is going to be able to tell the 
difference", but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try to be accurate in our 
wording.
