I believe the above statement is incorrect in referring to
"this" issue in the singular. There is more than one thing
in play here and ignoring all but one aspect seems to me
fairly guaranteed to lead to discussion based on premises
that are false, or not agreed among the participants.

There are certainly non-technical parts of these discussions.

But, there are also what ought be almost purely technical
parts, and IMO the correct handling of such a niche thing
as a namespace the GNU people would like to use (without
DNS) is one of those technical discussions.
