Just found this in my Drafts folder. Re Michaels mail.
Apparently didn't send it.
Sending now.

Michael you are right there but the GFA A.D. doesn't reflect the later SB for
the Slick Mag.
Yes when the engine has 2 mags the service interval is 500 hours.
Where the engine has 1 mag the service interval is 250 hours.
And as Michael points out the Dimona has only one Mag.
Also worthy of note is that it is a service not an overhaul.
Trouble is some people think a service is an overhaul and there is a huge
diffference.
To "Overhaul" a Slick mag is not worth the effort commercially due to the
"mandatory replacement items list" which is worth not much less than an
exchange unit from Slick and then there is the local labour charge from the
service centre.
It just isn't worth it.
The Bendix is 3 times the price but cheap in parts to overhaul as the mandatory
repalcement parts list is much less. Limbach have not used the Bendix for over
2 decades due to the price of the Mag.
Hard to justify on the purchase price of an engine.

Also note until recently as an engine manufacturer they did do Slick overhauls
based on inspection of parts which made the price more realistic but have
stopped due to insurance issues knowing Slicks positon on overhaul
requirements. Nothing unsafe about what they did just a percieved risk for
insurance.
The TBO of a slick is set by the Engine TBO. Thus in the case of an L2000 it is
1000 hours.
If there is a 2 year service limit that is new to me. Love to know more if that
is the case.
Cheers.
Nige.

  Hi Rob

Magneto - An AD came out some years ago when someone discovered there weren't
very many magnetos in a Dimona. An internal inspection is required every 250
hours.

  Hi Neville,
The cables fit through quite a thin tube but with care you can get a
drawstring through....we wrapped some thin but strong string around a goodly
length of the wire cable and wrapped it with electrical tape. If anything more
than minor resistance pull it back out and try and get it thinner.
Cut the cable, pull it out then lay it out with the end on a screw
attached to a piece of wood or some thing solid. Swage one end of the new cable
...lay it out along side of the old cable and use a marker pen at the other end
to indicate where the swage will ultimately go then feed it back in and swage
when back inside.
Replacing all cables so often is VERY conservative but we found that the
rudder pedal cables that go through some sharp turns can, in fact need it.
I thought the Slick magneto was every 500 hours.. We haven't managed to
get to 5 years.
  cheers
  Rob

It seems that my recently imported H36, despite having had an annual plus an
export C of A (at a cost of 1700 euros) and declared airworthy, is overdue for
the two yearly strip/inspection of the Slick magneto and also the ten yearly
replacement of the rudder and tail wheel cables - a bit disappointing!

Anyone done these jobs and can warn me of any potential problems? Also could
do with a foolproof method of attaching a drawstring to the rudder cables
before pulling them out.

  Cheers,

  Neville.
