Hi Neville.
Getting the Mag in and out is a bit painful. Attached is a procedure I wrote
and John Viney proof read and added to for changing the Harness which cover
removal and reinstall of the Mag.
You will find this helpful I think.
Getting it out now takes me about an hour and install about 90 minutes as I
have done it a few times.
No I am not visiting N.Z. in the next month so good luck with it.

Front rudder cables don't need a draw string. Back ones it is wise but I had
one come off last time and didn't have any trouble feeding the new cable back
through.
Adjust the steering and rudder cable tensions so the splitting plate sits
square. By nature the steering cable springs will limit the tension load on the
rudder cables. Too light a tension will influence the tail wheel to shimmy and
from experience too tight isn't comfortable either for that and handling.
I am talking the aft cables here of course.
When Rob and I did it the first time (to all 3 aircraft) I don't think the
Thais had ever replaced them (20years) and other than where they had tried
greasing them at the ends of the guide tubes they were like new Talking aft
cables here.
In OZ under the GFA system we are allowed to inspect. So last time when I
removed the rudder and steering cables I checked them and they were like new so
I then used those cables in the forward section as they were long enough and
replaced the aft with new cable reducing cost somewhat.
Hope that is of help.
Cheers.
Nigel.

It seems that my recently imported H36, despite having had an annual plus an
export C of A (at a cost of 1700 euros) and declared airworthy, is overdue for
the two yearly strip/inspection of the Slick magneto and also the ten yearly
replacement of the rudder and tail wheel cables - a bit disappointing!

Anyone done these jobs and can warn me of any potential problems? Also could
do with a foolproof method of attaching a drawstring to the rudder cables
before pulling them out.

  Cheers,

  Neville.
