Just finishing a LOOONNNNG project this week. Now I can get away. I'm Keen. Bad time of the year now weather wise but Sept or Oct is good. I am to become a Grandfather for the first time (4 times Step Grandfather on Heathers side) in the second week of Oct but otherwise can fit in. Is there a long weekend around then. If some are going to the Glory they might be prepared to take a detour. Broken Hill is great. Has fuel and an awfully long runway but an ASIC is required like so many places now. There is a right c... working for the council who is a real tyrant on the card thing. Great spot. I have a Gliding mate who runs a 4WD tour company there and with notice could organize transport for the all the troops to see the local sites. Around town is easy as you can walk to all the galleries etc.
Arkaroola is great too. Strip is a little challenging but otherwise fine. If the wind is strong in the wrong direction then land at Balcanoona (Parks and Wildlife Strip) it is a longer drive into Arkaroola but manageable. Again I have a mate. Isn't this Gliding and Touring game heaps of fun. He is Doug Sprigg the co owner of Arkaroola with his Sister Margerate. He also a dead keen pilot and does tours in his 8 seater Cessna but his love is for the 3 seat Auster when it is a small group. Still operates it under his AOC. Nice bloke and keeps a clunker car at the village that he owns privately and has nothing to do with the business just for visiting pilots like me. Just leave it full of fuel when your done. Oh and a few beers or a nice wine is always appreciated. Given notice he could organize all the troops with a lift from the strip to the village and a must do is the Ridge Top 4WD tour. Takes 4 hours but spectacular. Ten people to a wagon (3 wagons) so again with notice we could book the lot of us. Also the Observatory Tour is fantastic as well. So yep I am interested in both locations. Doing it all again is fine for us. Just getting away is great anyway. The strip at Arkaroola is undulating and set against the side of a hill. Experience and Common Sense is essential but I had no problems with it even given what I just pointed out. Cheers. Nige. Fly safe and enjoy. ----- Original Message ----- From: Laurie Hoffman To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, May 17, 2010 4:55 PM Subject: [DOG mailing list] Prop tip colours Hi All Just been touching up a few minor spots in the paint finish on GYT. Tips were resprayed in blue as previously. The Hoffmann prop tips are the standard red. I tossed around the thought of blue prop tips to match the wing tips and one comment was that red and yellow are the only permitted colours for prop tips. I havent heard this before. Anyone know any more? Hey Nige, we've bandied around the idea previously of a organising a Dimona fly in sometime. Maybe at Arkaroola or Broken Hill as fairly central locations. Any more thoughts? Erich Witstock flew him down in it spoke to LAME at Lismore and he was surprised about the 250hrs - He said all I do is obey the maker (slick) and their service bulletins and they say 500hrs!!! He did say when engine is run on condition and engine and mag has done 2500hrs+ it can start to show. Notice the Swiss falke mag service (all exchange over to reserviced one) had 500hr service so it seems like the swiss ignore the Germans- Wonder what they do in France - I am sure it will not be same as Germans ian m On 9 May 2010 20:44, Nigel Baker <[email protected]> wrote: What new owner?
