Scott Lennon recently bought G109A from Harry Basch and Harry used to be lecturer at the LAME apprentices school at Parafield and came up with hours only in his g109 as you read the aircraft Maintaince manual first.
Why would you send in a perfectly working prop to Eric and it comes back with nothing but trouble after trouble after trouble. Kevin Rodda's G109 B prop is going in next week to prop Care and on Friday I sent Nigel at PropCare the overhaul manual. Nigel on wall has CASA approval for Hoffman prop but he must have overhaul manuals before he starts. I my experience with Eric Weston was 6 yr 11 month service then back 18 months with trouble (throwing out of cruise) then 12 months later (again throwing out of gear) back to him and this time he ordered exchange prop hub. Now the total has reached $10000 and still not right so this time I used the brains of Mark Laird and he picked the aluminium ring that adjusts pitch (what the steel slide slides on) had a slope on one side and no wonder it was slipping out of gear. Changed this part and it worked but I put another steel slide which a friend resurfaced. Yes it is a wisker THINNER which may bring the cruise and climb a little closer to each other (i can not pick it) BUT IT NOW WORKS PERFECT. Eric missed that this part guess $100 was at fault and never ever changed it. When I put it back together pitch was different but what a discovery. It now goes 2800rpm at 60 kts but it climbed maybe the best ever. Max torque with S2500 is 2825rpm It was previously almost 3000rpm at 60 kts before. I will not touch it. What an expensive drama for 4 years AND HE MISSED THE FAULT! Enough is enough for me. See http://services.casa.gov.au/airworth/airwd/ADfiles/ equip/prop/PROP-001.pdf This means that as soon as it is documented in the system there is no longer a calendar time for overhauls. Ian McPhee has been dealing with Prop Care (www.propcare.com.au) in Brisbane for Hoffman overhauls and hopefully they will be soon doing work on Hoffman props. We are continuing to have a nightmare run with Eric at Australian Air Props at Bankstown. 3 times in the past 2 years our prop has come back to us with problems. Once *WAY* out of balance then next time set much too coarse and only pulling 2000 at full power. Then recently he sent it back to us with the counterweights set incorrectly and the rpm was fluctuating on run up and early take off roll. Add to that he charges a fortune because he knows that the only other option in Australia is to send the props to Germany. Up near $4000 now for about 10-15 hours work. Fingers crossed that the Brisbane mob will be able to do them. The p lead grounds the primary coil. I found one source that says the primary coil puts out about 150 volts. The secondary coil puts out 10-15000 Volts. 40 amp or even 20 amp rated switch looks like overkill for whatever reason. Maybe consevative because we only get one of them.
