Solderdoodle Pro has helped many a hacker and maker with broken Makerbots, soldering classes, and small Arduinio type projects where the soldering station is on the other side of the room or lugging a standard wall powered soldering iron with a cord is just too bulky and slow. It's not intended to replace your standard soldering iron, as you can solder much thicker wires for your house or boat with a standard soldering iron, but it is a welcome addition. If you'd like to try it out let me know.

I'm still trying to figure out the use for a rechargeable soldering iron. It would seem that most anywhere there is electronics there would be power for a soldering iron. Even if you were doing repairs on a boat or in the field I'd guess there would be some source of power. Or if you really were that far from power that you'd have backup whatevers so you wouldn't need to do field repairs.

What's the hackability potential for adding temperature control?
Doesn't the lack of having this limit it to non-IC soldering, at least
for beginners?
