I used it. Isaac let me bring it for my PCC class and it was one of the
best soldering irons there.... (people bring in the weirdest things) but he
is using a quality tip that works nicely for through hole and SMD work.

Its great for camping or any quick soldering jobs at a maker faire,
festivals, when you are too lazy to go find the 30' extension cord. I dig
it. It makes perfect sense. It feels very normal although I've never used a
torch accept for plumbing.

Last camping trip I tried to use a thin metal stick by heating in the camp
fire. It really sucked as the temperature dropped off really quickly or the
geometry/mass couldn't keep the temperature...  I suppose I would have
taken anything after that.
