My hakko station heats to as much as 800 degrees in 30 seconds and will hold whatever temp I set with amazing precision.
The butane irons are cheap (and I rarely have a need for them) and having a single butane refill can under my kitchen sink isn't a big deal. Not like it is nuclear waste or something hard to store. The lithium in the rechargeable battery is probably more toxic than the butane.
