It is _ONLY_ of concern if you run transceive. I agree, I only run
separate also, and 98% CW!

If you decide to complete the station, the "color-coded'
crystals were introduced late in the R-4A run through the R-4B.
I was with you 100% until this point. Color coded crystals? I'm not
familiar with that aspect of the Drake line. I assume you're talking
about the "built-in" crystals rather than the plug in optional band
crystals.
And is the issue only an issue if you run transceive mode? When I had
my Drake twins, I never ran transceive mode, always split.
