"Gerry" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> made an utterance to the drakelist gang

The one Drake receiver I always come back to is the R-4B and I consider it
the ultimate vintage receiver in almost all respects. With a good set of
crystals you could cover up to 10 SWL bands in style. I agree with Gary on
all his points on the 2-B versus R-4 receivers. Additionally, the 2-B
maximum bandwidth is only 3.6kHz, much too narrow for good AM reception. Now
I know there's some people out there who say they can't tell the difference
between their favorite vintage rig and the latest bells and whistles
transceiver with DSP and cascaded filtering. I think they need to have their
hearing checked because there most certainly IS a difference when signals
are marginally copiable. There is not much difference when signals are
readable. In which case it doesn't really matter which rig you use. However
that's not the point because in the end we choose to use vintage rigs
because they are fun and straightforward, not because they are better.
