Ok, let's look at it differently.

Writing an accelerated 2D driver is quite easy. A weeks work at most if
everything works out well and you have available docs. This would
include Xv accel as well.

Now, writing the 3D driver part is quite more difficult, and will not
work on every OS XFree86 supports.
