You don't need the expensive mic if you buy the adaptor you can just  
use the $42 mic. Or you can skip the adaptor if you buy the $135 mic.   
I bought the $55 adaptor, and plan on using my existing head set and  
hand mics.

So if you've already got an icom-standard mic, the adaptor will let  
you skip the nice speaker mic for a long time :-)

I've got a spare battery, drop in charger and GPS mic on my holiday  
wish-list, since all I got was the radio, mic adaptor and software/ 
cable to keep my costs down.  I hope the OM actually reads it :-)
