I use Appleworks 6, and I like it just fine. I've been an Appleworks user
ever since I was running release 4, and it's always done everything that I
need it to do, never really had the need to move to MS Office. One thing
that I find invaluable is Mac Links Plus which lets me translate almost
anything and everything and load it into Appleworks. I suspect that
Appleworks is just fine for most people who need a program of that sort.

One "gotcha" - while the user interface of Appleworks 4 & 5 are similar,
Appleworks 6 uses a new user interface that adopted the brushed steel look
of the new Quicktime and doesn't look anything like 4 & 5.

I'd consider getting Office if I was doing a lot of sharing of heavily
formatted files with Office for Windows users, but as I am not, I haven't
had a problem. Once or twice when I've had to send a word processing
document to a Windows user, I've saved it in the appropriate format with the
save-as feature and had no trouble with it.
