Unfortunately Windows can't do squat unless the file is named
correctly. If you don't put an extension on your file name, you WILL
get calls about how "you sent me a bad file and my computer can't
read it" (oh, and Macs suck too).
I constantly have to remind my users to put ".doc" or ".xls" or
".ppt" at the end of their filenames so that learning-impaired
Windows users can open our files.
And there is NO setting in Office 98 to automatically stick on the
proper PC file extension. When I called Microsquat to ask if there
was one, I was told "Well, no, you don't need that on a Macintosh."
God forbid they should make it just a tiny bit easier to share files.
