Just an afterthought to this thread:the problem of "foreign drives" not 
being recognized by Apple's drive-setup programs (guess why) seems to be 
well known where scsi drives are conserned. There are patches to be found 
on the web. But your's is an IDE drive, if I understand correctly. The 
one third-party formatting program which recently helped me to finally 
"see" and format an IBM drive installed in my duo dock was intech's Hard 
Disk Speed Tools (vs. 3.0) (www.IntechUSA.com -they pride themselves of 
recognizing "virtuallly every SCSI and IDE drive on the market"). Maybe 
it's worthwile to check it out.
