on Versiontracker.com i found this little Finder-substitute called
Minisubstitute which is much smalled than the Finder but supposed to
replace it for emergency diskettes. you could be able to replace the
finder with Minisub and then add CD drivers etc. i've never tried
it, famous last words. bob
